Legislative Listening Session

Legislative Listening Sessions

WSAC is pleased to present a series of online meetings, organized by region, that can help you learn how counties have partnered with the state to serve the public during the COVID-19 pandemic and help with what comes next. Counties are working now on the issues you’ll face as legislators at later sessions (regular or special). Hearing from your counties on the frontlines is an excellent way to get a head start on planning.

COVID-19 is at the forefront of everyone’s minds, but counties are on the front lines of the pandemic. Much is happening at the state level, but even more is happening at the local level: counties have been government’s “first responders” in handling the health crisis and implementing the Governor’s orders and state policies.

Counties run health departments, and so many other crucial on-the-scene services and programs. Counties are responsible for emergency operations centers, human services, jails, 911 services, veterans’ services, and even the “last of the first responders” (aka coroners and medical examiner)—all while continuing essential county functions like elections, land use and planning, road maintenance, transportation, and many more services we tend to take for granted.
